Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, and Minister of Justice and National Integration, Harshana Nanayakkara, met with the Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, at the Archbishop's House in Colombo today (06) for a special discussion.

The primary objective of this meeting was to brief His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith on the ongoing activities and upcoming special reforms in the judicial and prison sectors—topics currently drawing widespread public attention and discussion. Additionally, the ministers sought to clarify the true facts surrounding these matters, as various individuals have been spreading misinformation in society.

During the meeting, the two ministers briefed His Eminence in detail on the positive steps the government has already taken, as well as its future reform plans aimed at addressing current challenges in these sectors, further strengthening public trust in the judiciary, and ensuring swift justice for the public without delay.

Speaking to journalists following the meeting, Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa addressed the proposed amendments to the Anti-Corruption Act. He stated that the public has the right to know the assets and liabilities of public representatives at any given time, assuring that this right will be protected and in no way hindered.

The Minister further explained that publicly disclosing the assets and liabilities of public servants and officials in statutory bodies could potentially infringe upon their personal privacy while serving in the public or private sectors. Therefore, he noted that the proposed amendments are focused strictly on those specific areas.

In response to a question regarding constitutional amendments, the Minister stated that amending the constitution requires time and necessitates extensive dialogue both within Parliament and among the public outside.
