President Maithripala Sirisena was the chief guest at the ‘Uththamabhivandana Ranga Perahera’ stage show enacting the heroic saga of Uva Wellassa yesterday (April 3) at the Nelum Pokuna in Colombo.
This was produced under the guidance of President Sirisena, who recently issued a gazette notification to declare Uva Wellassa rebels, who were named as traitors by the colonial rulers, as National Heroes.
The Department of Information produced this stage drama on the advice of the President. It was directed by eminent artiste, Gaya Ramya Alwis and conducted by well known composer Ravibandhu Vidhyapathy. Saman Lenin provided music for the drama in which the cast included Nisshanka Diddeniya, Sanath Wimalasiri, Madhani Malwattage, Chandana Irigalbandara, Ranga Weerakoon and Mohamed Safraz.
The Mahasangha, Ministers and Members of parliament, intellectuals and artistes were among the distinguished gathering.
