The President made these observations participating in a symposium under the theme: “International Dialogue of 150th Ven. Anagarika Dharmapala’s Birth Anniversary” at the BMICH on Monday (21).

The Buddha Sasana Ministry and the Mass Communication Department of the Kelaniya University organized the event.

Addressing the event the President said that the issues prevailed in that era and issues pertaining to the modern society are same and he further said that concepts included in his national program, such as living as one nation, revival of the Buddha Sasana and the program against alcohol and drugs, are highly commendable.

The President also requested the organizers to take this national program from town to village and make the school children, youth and the community knowledgeable about his great ideals, before we mark the Anagarika Dharmapala Week next year. He added that he would provide every resource necessary for this purpose.

President Sirisena pointed out that the highest respect we can pay to Anagarika Dharmapala is to educate the current declining society and community about his philosophy.

The President garlanded the statue of Anagarika Dharmapala at this occasion.

Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa and Chief Custodian of Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, Dela Bandara also participated in this ceremony.
