The UN Secretary General made these remarks at a special meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena at the UN Headquarters in New York yesterday (Sep. 26).
He stated the entire world keeps hopes upon the ‘Sustainable Development’ which is a theme of this year’s UN session. ‘The United Nations Organization expects to achieve 17 goals through the sustainable development’, he said, requesting President Sirisena’s assistance to make the program over the sustainable development successful.
Mr. Ban Ki Moon expressed his commendation to President Sirisena for his commitment to hold the last Presidential Election in free, peaceful and fair manner.
The President thanked the UN Secretary General for his assistance given to make that election successful.
Mr. Ban Ki Moon, commending the reconciliation process being carried out in Sri Lanka, stated he would give every support make it more successful through a proper political program.
President Sirisena stated Sri Lanka will work with the UNO with trust, as a government which respects the covenants of the UNO. He further stated it is government’s aim to implement a program of good-governance through establishing of commissions and passing the 19th amendment to the constitution.
The President also emphasized that the government will act properly over the Geneva proposals and will be dedicated for the program for reconciliation.
