Arrangements are being made by Government Film Unit of the Department of Government Information to conduct a Workshop on Documentary and Short Film Making in Colombo at the Auditorium of the Government Information Department from December 14 - 18, 2015 with the honorarium contribution of Asian Film Centre.

This workshop will be conducted by K. Hariharan, a renowned Chennai-based Indian film maker. A graduate in Film Direction from the Film & Television Institute of India, Pune, Hariharan is considered an excellent teacher on cinema. He is the Professor of Creative Science and Dean, Students & Operations at Mahindra Ecolo Centrale, Hyderabad and visiting lecturer in the South Asia Regional Studies Department of Cinema Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania since 1995. He also functions as a guest lecturer at the Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; Film & TV Institute of India, Pune and the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai.

Before joining the Mahindra Ecolo Centrale, Hyderabad he was the Director of the LV Prasad Film & TV Academy, where at an ambitious and pioneering project promoted by the Prasad Group in Chennai, he along with his team conducted a two year program to groom competent Filmmakers, Television producers and technicians. The overall objective of this Institute, which is housed within a spacious state of the art LV Prasad studio complex, is to create filmmakers with a more holistic vision of Cinema as an extension of the study of liberal arts.

Duding an artistic carrier which spans over a period of three decades Hariharan has made seven feature films in Marathi, Tamil and Hindi Languages. Three films among them won national and international awards and screened at the prestigious Berlin, Edinburgh, Moscow and Vladivostok international film festivals. He has also directed three films for the Children’s Film Society of India. He has enormously contributed to the field of documentary and educational films over the years.

He has served on the juries of several international film festivals including Trivandrum, Tallinn, Jeonju and the MIFF event in Mumbai as the chairperson.

This workshop will be conducted in English medium, and the five day workshop will include lectures on short/documentary film making, shooting, editing and making of a finished product.

At the conclusion of the workshop a valuable certificate with the signature of Mr. K. Hariharan will be awarded to the participants.
