In a letter to King Philippe, President Sirisena said he was shocked to hear the news about the cowardly and brutal terror attacks at Brussels' main airport and a metro station that left more than 30 people dead.
The President personally, and on behalf of the people of Sri Lanka, extended the condolences to the government and the people of Belgium and hoped for a speedy recovery to all victims affected in the explosions.
Sri Lanka's Foreign Affairs Ministry in a brief statement said there are no reports of Sri Lankans affected by the twin blasts at the main terminal of Zaventem international airport and the Maelbeek metro station in the city center.
The Sri Lankan Embassy is in touch with the authorities, the Foreign Ministry said. Sri Lankan nationals in Belgium can contact the Embassy at +32 471872745.
