Water motors worth Rs. 35 million bought with the funds of Senehase Siyapatha, an initiative by Lake House, Dialog, SLBC, Rupavahini and the Disaster Management Centre, was handed over to the Disaster Management Ministry to distribute among those affected by adverse weather conditions.
The water motors were handed over to Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa by Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilake at the latter’s ministry yesterday.
Senehase Siyapatha collected contributions upto Rs. 35 million within two days of its initiation. The funds were used to buy water motors for the affected people.
Minister Karunathilake said as soon as the country was affected by the flood and landslide situation, President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe took measures to provide relief for the affected. He said once the flood waters recede the government would take measures to resettle the displaced people.
Minister Priyadarshana Yapa thanked those who took the initiatives to provide relief for the affected.
