Government plans to recruit 8,000 Information Officers for 4,000 government institutions to be established under the Right to Information Act.
Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake presented the RTI bill to the Parliament on 24th March. Parliament passed it unanimously on 23rd June.
According to the Minister Karunathilake, as the second the step the government has to appoint the Information Commission, appoint new officers, train them, and to absorb them with the relevant institutions, and to compile the necessary documents within six months following the regulations of the Act.
“The government will take all possible action to protect the democracy of the country”, said Minister who assured to take necessary action as soon as possible.
