Phase one of awarding Tablet PCs for parliamentary journalists organized by the Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media in collaboration with the Ministry of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure aimed at empowering journalists with modern information technology held yesterday (23rd) at Parliament premises under the patronage of the Hon. Speaker, Mr. Karu Jayasuriya, Hon. Gayantha Karunathilake, Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media and Hon. Harin Fernando, Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure.

In attending the event, the Hon. Speaker stated that the Parliament of Sri Lanka has now become the best Parliament in Asia and he appreciated the contribution of parliamentary journalists therein in reporting parliamentary news.

Addressing the gathering, the Hon. Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media said that the journalists should always be ahead of the general public and he further added that the journalists who have worked with pen and paper should be facilitated with sophisticated technology and the Ministry is currently focusing on the welfare of journalists and establishing a proper salary scheme for the journalists.
