The President appointed this Special Committee last January to prepare the national policy on the drive of Sri Lanka to achieve 2030 sustainable development goals and Prof. Mohan Munasinghe is the Chairman of that Committee.
The draft has comprehensive details of goals that Sri Lanka should achieve by 2030, focusing on economic, social, and environmental sectors under selected spheres of agriculture, transportation, energy, health, education, water, oceans and fisheries, urban and physical planning, and it was discussed in detail regarding implementation of those things in the future.
This is the first time that such kind of sustainable development vision is being introduced in Sri Lanka, and it will be available in next January as a National Sustainable Dialogue to review the public opinion on this topic.
Accordingly, there will be extensive consultations with the public covering all the districts of Sri Lanka, from next January to May and through this initiative it is expected to create a broad dialogue regarding what should be the future sustainable development vision of Sri Lanka, in all sectors, including the public, politicians and academics.
According to those views and proposals, the future amendments of the report will be made.
Secretary to the President Austin Fernando, General Secretary of the National Economic Council Prof Lalith Samarakoon, Coordinating Secretary of President Attorney-at-Law Shiral Lakthilake and others participated on this occasion.
