This was held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (25).
President Sirisena was thankful for everyone for the glory brought to the Motherland by winning the highest number of awards in Commonwealth games, in which Sri Lanka participated.
The President offered best wishes for their future sports activities and announced that he would ensure that they would get the highest cooperation for their future sports activities.
President Sirisena stated that sports helps to create a person with discipline and said that he would fulfill his responsibilities towards promotion of sports in the journey to build a better society.
Indika Dissanayake, who won a silver medal in mens weightlifting, J.A.C Lakmal, who won the bronze medal and B.D. Hansani Gomas as well as Anusha Kodithuwakku who for the first time in Commonwealth games carved the name winning an award in boxing for Sri Lanka and Thiwanka Ranasighe and Ishan Seneviratne Bandara who won bronze medals were felicitated.
The coaches who contributed were also appreciated.
Minister Faizer Mustapha, Deputy Minister H.M.M. Harees, former minister Dayasiri Jayasekara, Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, Jayantha Wijeratne, Director General of Department of Sports, H.M.B.P. Herath, as well as sportsmen and women and sports council members were present at this event.
