President Maithripala Sirisena issuing a congratulatory message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said,

Having been associated with you, I would like to express the hope that in your second term at India’s helm that bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and India will continue to grow, and strengthen, particularly on the economic front”.
He also emphasized that India has a key role to play in spearheading regional growth that brings prosperity to the region. “Congratulations on your victory and the people’s re-endorsement of your leadership. Sri Lanka looks forward to continuing the warm and constructive relationship with India in the future.” the President Tweeted.
Prime Minister Wickremesignhe congratulating his Indian counterpart said that the Government looks forward to working closely with him. “I have immense pleasure in extending to you, my warmest congratulations and sincere best wishes on the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party at the recent General Elections of India and your re-assumption of the high office of Prime Minister of India. The support you received from the people of India is clearly a manifestation of their trust and confidence in your leadership.
