The documents related to the extension was handed over to President Maithripala Sirisena by the Australian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka David Holly at the President’s Office 11th November.
The two dignitaries discussed about the progress made the future activities.
As an agreement reached between President Sirisena and then Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull during a visit by the President in 2017, a MoU was signed with ANSTO on May 25th 2017. The official term of the agreement was expired on May 25th 2019.
The ANSTO has launched several research activities in Sri Lanka in order to assist the endevours led by President Sirisena to prevent the kidney disease in Sri Lanka especially in the North Central Province.
The Director of the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease Asela Iddawela was also present on the occasion.
