The Cabinet of Ministers has granted its consent to the proposal forwarded by Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister Ratnasiri Wickremenayake to conduct the State Vesak Festival from May 21 to 27, 2024 in the Matale District, Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said.
He was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department.
The theme for the State Vesak festival for Sri Buddha year 2568 (2024) is “Let’s not look at what others have done and look at what we have done”. The opening ceremony of the festival is scheduled to be held at the premises of Dharmaraja Pirivena in Matale and the closing ceremony at Millawana Sri Sunandarama Temple premises in Pallepola Divisional Secretariat.
Slaughtering of animals and the sale of meat and liquor will be prohibited on May 22,23 and 24.
