Chairman of the Associated Newspaper Ceylon Limited (ANCL), Prof. Harendra Kariyawasam, announced that the ‘Mihira’ newspaper, which has been a source of inspiration to the young generation of Sri Lanka, is being re-launched with a fresh look.

The announcement was made during the event held at the Lake House premises to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the ‘Mihira’ Newspaper. The launch of the new ‘Mihira’ website also took place at this event.

Chairman Kariyawasam emphasised the need to modernise the ‘Mihira’ newspaper in line with the advancements in the world.

He stated “Consequently, the ‘Mihira’ newspaper will be published as an e-newspaper, with plans to reintroduce it as a printed newspaper for children.

Originating on July 27, 1964, ‘Mihira’ had Sri Lal Liyanage as its first editor. From then until the current editor Rupanthi Bulathsinghala, the successive editors have worked tirelessly to improve the newspaper, evident in its present success.

Adapting to the changing world, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision was made to expand beyond

traditional print media. Consequently, ‘Mihira’ will transition to an e-paper format. However, in responding to requests from principals, efforts are underway to make ‘Mihira’ available as both a printed and an e-newspaper”.
