The swearing-in ceremony of State Ministers & Deputy Ministers of the new government was held this morning (27). The ceremony, presided by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, is taking place at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
The Election Commission along with its Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya met with the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya in the request of the support from the Parliament in legislating Media guidelines in order to ensure the conduct of Elections independent and just.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa,is slated to visit India on November 29. This will be his first official foreign visit as President.President Rajapaksa has accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to visit India next week. Delivering a brief speech after the official announcement of final election results of the Presidential Election 2019 by Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya at the Elections Secretariat, Colombo, President Rajapaksa further pledged to extend his fullest support to the Elections Commission to hold future elections on schedule. “I have been able to change the country’s election culture. I didn’t criticise anybody during my election campaign. I have also been able to conduct an environment friendly election campaign. I am very well aware that I am the President of both those people who voted for and against me. So I am dedicated to serving all Sri Lankans without considering their religious beliefs and ethnicity,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to the Elections Commission, the armed forces, police, the administrative institutions and, the people of the country for the contribution made by them to hold a fair and peaceful election.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed three new Secretaries this morning.
Dr. P. B. Jayasundara was appointed as the Secretary to the President and Major General (Retd.) Kamal Gunaratne was appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.
Former Central Bank Deputy Governor S. R. Attygalle has been appointed as the Secretary to the Treasury and the Ministry of Finance.
